Getting ready for your winter wonderland at the lake? Well you are likely to have a fantastic vacation whether you are away for a few days of Rest and Relaxation, or whether it’s a week of skiing or snowmobiling.
Getting to your Ontario cottage rental safely is the most important thing! Make sure your vehicle has snow tires! Most ‘cottage roads’ are not flat! A hill here and a dip there can cause some slipping and sliding if you are not prepared. It’s also a really good idea to keep a snow shovel in your vehicle in case there is a little, shall we say, mishap?
Cottage owners that rent out their properties in the winter time face a variety of challenges that other cottage owners don’t face. There will always be someone, whether it’s a neighbour or a Maintenance Property Company, to take care of removing the snow from the walkway and keeping the driveway clear.
The heat of course will be on, but kept very low – usually around 45 degrees when no one is renting. If we know your estimated time of arrival we can usually arrange for the heat to be increased to a comfortable temperature. You will also find the water from the cold water tap is really really cold!
I think winter cottage rentals are a great way to experience one of our prettiest seasons. If there is a wood burning fireplace you are in for a wonderful relaxing treat. I find sitting in front of the fire, crackling and blazing away, just mezmerizing. Be careful of course of sparks getting away and the damper opening and closing – there will be instructions so please follow them carefully – you don’t want to have a room full of smoke.
In the morning, you may wake up to a little fresh snow. The trees will be amazing – when you go for a walk beware of people ahead of you knocking branches over head as you WILL catch a huge plop of snow when you least expect it.
An Ontario cottage rental in the winter can be a truly magical experience – so if you are considering a wonderful getaway with a few friends (keep in mind there is a ‘No Party’ Policy in effect for every cottage we rent), there is no time like now.
Here are a few Ontario cottage rentals we offer for winter rentals:
Sugar Lake (Rosseau)
Georgian Bay (Victoria Harbour)
Lake Muskoka (Bracebridge)
