Being Out in the Cold

Brrr – it’s cold here today!!  But, being the brave and hardy souls that we are, 3 of us prepared to go out for a Cross Country ski this afternoon.  We dressed in many layers, not exactly fashionably either – I mean how can long underwear make anyone look good?

But we did finally get the last articles of clothing on, balaclavas included.  This was one windy day with a wind chill of -23 C as we headed out over the field to get to the trails in the bush.  And what a difference – no wind and thus no wind chill.  The crunch of the snow was loud and clear and the trails were too cold to be really fast and we sure didn’t want to ‘make’ a wind chill.  We had 4 dogs with us to get some exercise – them AND us.

Our goal was to make it to the island on the little lake where we have a winter fire pit prepared and ready to light.  It is covered with a tarp of course.  But the wind was ever present and we were feeling some old frost bitten toes, or rather, not feeling them, so it just made good sense to not push it today.  The hot cup of tea at this wonderful spot on the lake would have to wait till another day.

Next time we will pick a little calmer day – but just the same, the ski was great, the company excellent and we all look forward to doing this again – Real soon!

Now, if YOU have a weekend at an Ontario cottage rental, you can do exactly the same thing, only it would be much much nicer to come back to Ahmic Lake cottage… or Sugar Lake cottage! Oh what a treat a hot tub would have been today!
